2016

For this project, I wanted to show the interaction between the real and unreal lines which are present in our world. Carved in rocks and vegetation, in water or in the sky, the material lines create organic boundaries. Links between individuals, differences between cultures, connections beyond space and time, immaterial lines are straight, rigid, and transform our perception of the environment. Through the example of maps, I have shown how immaterial lines are subjective, personal, or linked to a culture. Here, for example, I used different representations of the earth, on sheer paper, and together, they get completely unreadable.

In terms of textile research, I first worked at drawing lines to create a print for my garment. There is different kinds of lines, curvy, strain, fine, thick. They can be created by the pen, or on the opposite by the empty space left.

Then, I have printed my pattern on the fabric and tried different types of pleating to change the drawing.

On the left, for example, I used an organic removal product to destroy some part of the fabric and reveal non-organic thread composing this fabric.

For the form of the garment, I used a basic corsage and skirt, and moved it around the mannequin, to change the shape and the relief.

for my final garments, I changed the surface of the basic corsage and skirt to create new shapes. For the one on the right, I sewed multiple lines on a cotton fabric to shrink it, and change the volume as well as the print on it. On the left, I used my skirt experimentation and put the volume on a long sheer chiffon dress form.
